Darkland Series 524-9

  • Most of these recordings are taken from my car and they present a different view of the road and scenery.
  • The Darkland Series belongs to an ongoing set of work which began in 2002.
  • The still shots above are taken from 5000 similar images constructed as a film.
  • The darkland series includes darkland cities and darkland memories of childhood.

On Monday its my 56th birthday, however I am celebrating this today.
Living your life through art or maybe in art or as art is the only way.

Giving Flowers

I have been drawing in ink on a folded piece of paper for a few weeks now. Sometimes I draw

when I'm on a train or other places. Last week, in a restaurant I continued my drawing which, was about a lady 'selling flowers'. After a few minutes a lady sat down and asked me about the drawing, she thought it could mean this or that and visualised her ideas and thoughts through the drawing even giving it her title.
Her name was Evie and she was from Lithuania.

So I gave her the drawing.

Afterwards I realised that several parts of the drawing had been recorded on my pda so here it is above left.

This chance encounter was 'beautiful' (a word artists don't use much these days)
and reciprocal - to be valued.. and the events transformed the original drawing.

PDA drawing in Spring

Just making a series of PDA drawings for an exhibition. They are created using a Palm Zire 71 and uploaded into Photoshop then joined together in sets of three.

I feel more comfortable with drawing than photography because it is a more intimate tactile experience.

Every Spring time, clocks are changed and there is more daylight at the end of the day - maybe I feel more creative now.

I made these drawings walking around a supermarket at 11 am -they are dependent on 'chance' as the screen I draw on has to be scrolled down so I can't see the whole drawing at any one time - I dont really know what they will look like until they are joined together. Creating art spontaneously in public places
involves additional senses - why do so few artists draw outside these days?

Dream 200308 - Holes in the Sky

My dream drawing is from a 5 year project, in which I am recording my dreams everyday. The entry for this one reads =

'opening and closing of cloud holes revealing blue sky and colours on a cloudy day'.

In my dream I am photographing the holes.

This dream happened last night....instant recall this morning, but not always

Weaving the Land- No: 008kju90

Embedded digital construct - starting point of a germ of an idea to create a perpetual online diary called minuszeroplus -zero+

just working out how I can easily live my life and continually update the data (every day)

Using 2 old Palm Zire71 PDA's to try this out at the moment..

Waiting for the winter

In the beginning of November there was a slight sign of the winter in southern Finland, but only one week. In November and December waiting for the winter and in January still waiting. Warm, gray, dark, raining, ground mud all over, rivers flooding... where is my winter?

Shoe Tree Dreamers

Apparently a shoe tree starts with one dreamer throwing their shoes onto a branch - I have driven past these local trees in Birmingham many times and today decided to take a few camera shots at 12.15pm.

The trees look quite sad, and against the backdrop of the residential tower block windows, the shoes made me think about peoples lives.

Why do people do this?
Here is another account of shoe tree mythology

Resolutions

Wishing everyone a happy new year, always an interesting time due to resolutions made (and broken)...

To - be good, be better, give up, begin, stop, start, try harder...

The scanned drawing above is a homemade Christmas Card that was never sent, so seems appropriate to post it into blogspace.
